Truth and Reconciliation Community – Bobcaygeon had our second annual Box Lunch Social aka picnic with CLFN’s Getsiinyag +55 group. The weather co-operated and we had a sunny day with pleasant temperatures. The idea was to enjoy our first event at “Inawanadimin” – the new garden at the Beach Park.
Brittany Taylor opened our gathering in a good way with a smudge and she also smudged the 14 stones in the circle that provide the structure for the garden.
After a round of introductions and stories about who we are and how we came to this territory, we enjoyed a picnic lunch with at least 3 baked treats per person. There wasn’t a crumb left.
Our musical duo, Dave and Wayne, organized us into a very talented sing-a-long with special parts and featured singers from Elvis and the Everly Brother days. Two highlights included singing Buffy Sainte Maries’s Universal Soldier and a round of Amazing Grace in Anishinaabemowin.
The 14 stones provided a welcoming backdrop to our gathering. They also whispered a promise of many more friendship building events to come.
