Truth and Reconciliation Bobcaygeon presented four community outreach opportunities at Kawartha Settlers’ Village this summer.
On Monday July 3 there was a showing of Gord Downie and Jeff Lemire’s film ‘Secret Path’. On October 22, 1966 a young boy named Chanie Wenjack escaped from Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School to walk home. Like so many children, he never made it there. Chanie died alone.
Thousands of children, beginning in the late 1800’s and moving into the present were torn from their parents and moved far away by churches and governments. This is a story of Canada that needs to be told and understood.
On Monday July 17, there was a community workshop titled ‘ Insights from Canada’s Truth & Reconciliation Commission ‘.
August 7 (Monday) there was a presentation of the new Curve Lake First Nation’s film ‘Curve Lake Treaties’.
The final summer presentation was another community workshop on Monday August 21st. The focus was ‘The Language of Reconciliation’.
