Canadian Cities Rooted in TRraditional Indigenous Territories

Indigenous Names for Land

“Every Aboriginal society had a system of place names. Villages, lakes, rivers, mountains… As European place names were superimposed on the land, many of the Aboriginal place names were overlooked. Others were adopted for common use, although often in modified form. (Ottawa, Quebec, Toronto)

Native Land Map

An interactive map that shows the Territories, Languages and Treaties for Indigenous Nations globally. North America, Central America and South America are included in this map. As are Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. There is also a teacher’s guide and a guide to Territory Acknowledgement.

Transforming Relations
