This year, orange ribbons will be provided and tied to vehicles participating in the parade in recognition of the painful truths of Canada’s Indian Residential School system as we have seen most recently in the news stories about the uncovering of hundreds of unmarked graves at residential school sites. The colour orange is in solidarity with the Every Child Matters Orange Shirt Day initiative that aims “to honour the children who survived the Indian Residential Schools and remember those that didn’t.”

Parade participants and supporters are encouraged to learn more about our history and about Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. As a starting point, visit the “215+ Memorial Art Installation” outside the Bobcaygeon Public Library and Boyd Museum and check out trcbobcaygeon.org and https://www.facebook.com/TRCBobcaygeon/.
