This is a reminder of the last event this month sponsored by Truth and Reconciliation Community Bobcaygeon on Friday September 30, 2022–on this second annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We want to mark this day of reflection by celebrating the creative gifts Indigenous people have to offer, work on building better relationships with each other and the land, and show gratitude to the Michi Saagig Nishnaabeg who have taken such loving care of this land known as Turtle Island from time immemorial.
The event starts at 5:00 p.m. sharp on the grounds in front of the Boyd Museum in Bobcaygeon. We are honoured and grateful to have the following creative people join us: Brittany Taylor, who will drum and sing; David Beaucage Johnson, one the artists included in the Celebrating First Peoples art show which is on display in the library art room; and Sarah Lewis, Peterborough’s first Poet Laureate.
The art show, showcasing Indigenous artists continues to September 30th, so if you have missed it, this week is your final chance to view the work of these talented creative artists.
Some of you participated in the Blanket Exercise on September 22 with Anne Taylor, language coordinator from Curve Lake First Nation. This was a very moving and impactful experience for everyone who attended, and we are so grateful for Anne’s presence, bringing her breadth of knowledge and compassion to this event.
We ask for donations from those who can afford to give. We are mindful of respecting Indigenous Speakers’ time and energy, and when we do ask our guest speakers for assistance, we provide honoraria to show gratitude and respect for their time, wisdom, and creativity. We have no government or corporate funding and so all the funds for honoraria come from donations. We will once again be asking for donations at the September 30th event.
Thank you in advance and we hope to see you on the 30th.
