The day formerly known as Orange Shirt Day previously remembered on September 30th will now be known as The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This move by the federal government to become a national holiday was one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations in 2015. The purpose of this day is not to have just another day of holiday but it is is to make the day one of reflection on the brutal policies Canada enacted against Indigenous children, their parents, other family members and loved ones for generations that followed.

Truth and Reconciliation Community – Bobcaygeon is planning an event that day at the space just outside the library in Bobcaygeon. We will be honouring the children by joining in drumming and song that is happening simultaneously across Canada. Stay tuned for updates.
